Emmy Scott - Executive Director
Emmy (she/they/ze) is a biracial queer cis-woman, activist, educator, and creative of 10+ years. She was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, where my family, specifically my grandparents, helped shape me to become who I am today. She often speaks about how when she was a child, she remembers always being outside learning, and interacting with nature. “My grandpa gave me access to a world outside the city that I fell in love with”, said Emmy. Ever since she has been passionate about expanding her learning about nature and our part as humans to protect the environment.
In 2021, she graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with two degrees, in Environmental Sustainability Studies and Business Management, and a minor in Communication. In addition to her studies, she had the honor to be involved with many organizations on my campus such as the Black Student Union, African Students United, the Student Senate as a Monfort College of Business Senator, a University organization called Student LEAF (Leadership for Environmental Action Fund) as grant coordinator and president, started and led an Earth Guardians Crew, and worked part-time as the university’s student sustainability director. While in school she also accomplished a few other projects including winning 1st place in the national Daniels Ethics Case Competition and the International Business, Ethics, and Sustainability Competition (IBESC), winning a few awards at her university for pitching and developing an app that would provide customized tools for those wanting to better their mental health or for those coping daily with mental health conditions, won Clearway's essay competition for my piece on the intersections of COVID-19, the public health sector, and climate change, and had a paper published by Mi Familia Vota on the disproportionate effects of the climate crisis on BIPOC communities in Arizona.
At 23 years old, she now serves as Earth Guardians' youngest Executive Director. According to Emmy, “I have the amazing opportunity and honor to travel the country representing Earth Guardians and speaking about social & climate justice from a biracial LGBTQIA+ perspective; as a young, queer, black woman in business who copes with mental health conditions, I prioritize advocating for racial and gender equity and spreading awareness/breaking negative stigmas of underserved populations and mental health.” Emmy also recognizes that businesses play a critical role in the climate crisis. Emmy is dedicated to creating a world where businesses are a force of good and the catalysts for a thriving future for all; she educates youth on the circular economy, place-based action, and voting with your dollar to empower underserved communities.
