Crew Spotlight: Earth Guardians Salt Spring Island


Earth Guardians Salt Spring Island, produced a half-day workshop, which they titled "In Celebration of Food," with the Swans and Herons of the Salt Spring Centre School (1st - 4th graders). The event shared the student’s experience with food, planted cover crops–phacelia, alyssum, and buckwheat–­­to enhance soil fertility and attract beneficial insects. They visited a beekeeper to learn about the fascinating life and critical role of pollinators, as well as milled wheat berries into flour to make pizza, and collectively created a mandala of gourds, seeds, shells and plants to celebrate food, health and our connection to the environment. This event was multigenerational ranging in ages 5-75, consisting of children, parents, grandparents and teachers!
